Always leave yourself an out

People at my original company were always wondering why I kept that job one day a week when I had a more lucrative closer one that was apparently much better.  This is why.

In July when I started there they let the didn't let the outgoing supervisor know there was anything wrong until I was actually onsite, then told her she was fired and sent her out the door literally in tears.  Having seen that I never trusted them.  One of the best moves I have ever made.

My original company just got a new contract and will be moving people around.  I am politicking to get my existing one day post expanded to full time - looks good since the current overnight guy has screwed up severely at least twice and was actually temporarily fired for awhile.  This job is where all I do is essentially walk around at night and feed three stray cats who at this point actually know my schedule and are waiting for me.

All it actually did was move up an event I saw coming anyway - I was just hoping it would last until summer.  This place had a big fullfillment warehouse on the first floor of the building, and a Level 3 Microsoft call center on the upper floor. Well, the second month I was there they lost 60% of the business off the first floor and last month the Microsoft activity got moved to the Philippines,  so the justification for all that security went with it.  Whats left is minimum wage stuff with no onsite supervisor at all.
