The Cicada Club, quite frankly, isn't any place to go alone. Unlike the Argyle, there is no place where a single person can sit and eat, and the lounge area is fairly far away from the orchestra. Not to mention they don't really want you in there if you aren't drinking, which puts it out of the picture for someone going there alone anyway.
If you don't have a dinner date and don't have or have not maintained the minimal dancing skills needed to make new friends and get invited to someone else's table, you get stuck merely observing the orchestra from a standing position, usually behind it. While there were performers there tonight that would have made even that an acceptable arrangement, fact is it would cost me about $20 in gas & parking merely to get there, and I'm not even sure I can get my van into that lot. Granted, there's no cover charge, but thats because the food & drink is so expensive and the entertainment gets paid out of that. Not so sure they want someone just wandering in to stand there and listen to the music, which is about all I would be doing.
So instead I'm spending Sunday night with sick kitties, and getting paid for it instead of spending money I don't have. And thinking about it, this is just as satisfying for me.
